They Made A Difference - Arkansas' Freemasons by Dick E. Browning (Editor), Gayle A. B. Browning (Editor)
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Library of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas, this book is published. Designed to acquaint Arkansans with the role members of the Masonic fraternity played in the establishment of the State, the progress it has made and the lasting contributions given by outstanding men who were also Freemasons. The fraternity of Freemasons in this state has done much to better society. It was the first to establish a college, St. John's College, it established an orphanage in Batesville, helped build and fund many of the early programs at Arkansas Children's Hospital and built a building to educate the children of parents in the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Booneville. However, it has been and continues to be the contributions made by individual Masons that impact our State in the widest areas of civic, educational, political and religious pursuits. The short history of these men, now dead, is worthy of our study and emulation. Their lives tell a personal story of Arkansas, one perhaps not told before. Arkansas is better and happier for their having lived in it.
